Freebie Friday

Freebie Friday

Hello everyone!! I am so beyond happy today. As you know, I am finally attending Bookcon for the first time ever. Long story short, the past two years I was on crutches during that time from my hip surgeries. So, I am super excited, even more so now that I’m talking to a huge amount of bloggers and booktubers about the event and planning meetups. This is the first big event like this I’ve planned to attend and I can finally meet so many of you amazing people. Are you going to Bookcon? If so, let’s meet up!

Alright, aside from that excitement, life has been pretty good. Crazy busy but that isn’t always a bad thing…except when I don’t get enough reading time in the day. My older son is officially off of school for Easter break. We are spending Sunday with the family so I really look forward to that. Family is a huge part of my life, they mean the world. What are some of your favorite Easter treats? I’m almost expected to make oreo balls (oreo truffles) for every family get together. The one time I didn’t everyone was up in arms.

Before we get too carried away talking about all of the amazing food and treats we look forward to this weekend, let’s get to another great Freebie Friday.

The remnants of the United States of America have been divided. From five enormous, technologically-advanced cities, the Greaters rule over the Lessers.
In the Lesser village of Orchard, things are not as perfect as Abby Kelley thinks they are. When the apple harvest draws near and the Greaters’ engineered fruits become too much for one village to handle alone, reinforcements from neighboring villages are called upon.
Having to choose between her best friend, whom she has no romantic feelings for, and mysterious newcomer Crew, Abby finds herself in the middle of a harvest that she had no intention of becoming a part of. She becomes involved in a situation that threatens the strict rule of the Greaters, and just might give the Lessers hope for a better tomorrow. But, can she help the Lessers without losing Crew?

When I first looked at this, the simplicity of the cover caught my attention. The summary reminded me a little of Hunger Games with a twist of After the Green Withered. I recently participated in a blog tour for the latter and did a first chapter review. I have no doubt that if something terrible like that happened here in the US, we would be quickly divided. It’s who humans are…we are selfish and fight to survive. I’d likely be left in the lower ranks but I know I could survive on my own. Could you survive on your own during something like this? Would you want to?

I find it interesting that it is clearly stated that Abby has no romantic feelings for her best friend. I think a good platonic relationship is refreshing when you look at all of the romance in YA books lately. Not that I don’t like romance, I love a good romance, but being only friends can be a nice change of pace. I am a sucker for Hunger Games so making the Greaters angry and giving the Lessers hope, I’m all for that. This book has me hoping for a strong and kick-ass female protagonist. I suppose I have to read it to find out.

There are two other books in this series as well and the second and third books are only $3.99! That is a great deal compared to some ebooks these days. I can’t believe an ebook costs nearly as much as a physical copy.
