Witchy Wednesday: Earth Magic by Dodie Graham McKay

Witchy Wednesday: Earth Magic by Dodie Graham McKay

Happy mid-week everyone! Welcome back to Witchy Wednesday, the day of the week where I openly talk about anything witchy. I admit I love this day of the week, though it is no longer the only day of the week I discuss anything witch or Pagan related.

How has everyone been?! Chaos here as usual. Between running the business, my kids, home, etc…I feel like there is never enough time in my day for anything. I have actually been doing a lot more reiki sessions in store in person as well as distance sessions (Yes I can do those as well). I am loving that I am able to help so many people on various levels. This weekend for example, I helped a customer perform a cord cutting ritual and finally set her boundaries, putting herself and her needs first. I am so proud to see growth in the people around me.

Many of you may not know, but Earth is my primary element. I am all about Earth magick and I can proudly say that I have found my all time favorite book on the subject! Yes, that is a bold statement but it is my personal opinion and I can not wait to share this book with all of you.

It does not matter if you are just beginning or have been practicing for a while, this book is packed, front ot back, with information.

I am so in love with this book that I think I will be giving it out as a gift to multiple friends now. While this is a book in a series of four, you can read them in any order. I have not read all of these, however…I think I will be partial to this one.

From sacred Earth sites, to spells, and even botanicals…this book has a little of everything but does more than scratch the surface. It brings with it a craving for more. Each topic is written about with respect and knowledge but in a way anyone can digest easily.
My favorite part of this was the grounding and breathing techniques. Well…that and the botanical section. I loved learning about trees and other herbs that I can use in my practice. I will be putting these into my practice. The four-fold breathing is how McKay was taught to ground themselves. Having a conscious awareness of your breath is a powerful thing that many take for granted. To use this one would breath in for a count of four, hold for four, breath out for four, and hold empty for four. This bring awareness to each part of the breath and deepens your ability to ground and connect with Earth.
In the beginning there is a section that gives brief introduction to Earth Deities across multiple belief systems. I really loved that this book showed multiple and did not stick to one pantheon such as Celtic. It helps on to expand their knowledge.
From Ley Lines to various kinds of salt and animal spirits, this book really is a resource tool I am blessed to have read. It is not written as a typical resource book either, I flew through the information and in doing so it sent me on a hunt for more information on various topics.
A must-have for anyone looking to work with the Earth element.

Thank you again to so much Llewellyn for sending me this book. I am happy to be able to offer my honest opinions.

Have you ever found a book that offered useful information but not in the way you practiced? Did you change it and adapt it?
