Down the TBR Hole: Part I

Down the TBR Hole: Part I

We all know that when it comes to Goodreads, it can be very easy to get overzealous and add way too many books (Not that that is a thing!) top out TBR lists. For those that are new to some of the bookish lingo, TBR means To Be Read. This is a list on Goodreads we all add books to as we read their summary and feel ourselves wanting to know more. Too often we add books and forget about them, never returning to see the list until, like mine, it gets out of hand.

With Samhain, Halloween, approaching…I am now thinking about the end of the Pagan Wheel of the year. This is the time of year to do a lot of self-reflection and let go of that which no longer serves you. For me, part of that is getting my Goodreads lists organized! To start, I will be going through this huge list of books and narrowing it down only to books that I truly feel pulled to read.

*Note…I might add some as we go through the list, that is always a danger at looking through books!*

Each week I will be deleting books I no longer feel drawn to from my TBR list. I will list the starting number of books on the list and the ending number. I will go through a small number of books each week, listing them and letting you all know if they will stay on the list or be deleted and why. At the end of the post, we will again look at the number of books I started with and what the number is after I have removed some.

That being said let’s start this journey.

Starting Number of Books: 617

Wow…ok not nearly as bad as I thought. Alright…I know you are shaking your head saying that having 617 books on this list is crazy and I am even crazier for saying that is not a large number. Well…if you knew me then you would understand. Alright, Let’s go from the oldest date added to the soonest. Also, if you have posted reviews for any of the books I am going through, please post those review links below! I would love to read your thoughts about the books.

Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1)

Let the shaming begin…yes this is on my list. I have still yet to read this!! I suppose this needs to happen soon, I even have a copy of it on my bookshelf that I have just not grabbed yet! How have I not read this…I have no idea but I need to remedy it. This is staying on the list!

Tiger's Dream (The Tiger Saga #5)

I read this a long time ago, I am not sure why this is even still on here. I have now marked it read so that takes care of that. However, I am now thinking I want to reread this series because I enjoyed it so much back then…maybe I’ll review the books here on my blog.

Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)

Here is yet another book that I have been meaning to read but unlike the other, I do not own a copy of this one already so I don’t feel nearly as terrible. This will have to be pushed up on my list. I will say that I am a little worried about this being historical fiction. I am not a huge history person sooooo yea… However, I have wanted to branch out into different genres so this is a great book to try to do that with. This one will be staying on the list.

Caraval (Caraval #1)

How in the world is this still on my TBR. I’ve read this book as well and loved it!! This entire series was great. I guess I am taking that off the list. But now I have to go back and see if I posted reviews and if not…it is time to reread these books!

Widow's Point

This book is definitely staying! I have wanted to read this for a long time but haven’t gotten my hands on a copy. I love horror novels and I have been meaning to read this for a while. I will say…the good thing about doing this is that I see books that I really have wanted to read but forgotten about.

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns, #1)

I am so excited that this is on my list. I actually just saw this again the other day and reading the summary reminds me of why I was so interested in the story. I want to dive into this one soon as well. This one stays on the list.

The Queen Underneath

I think what drew me into this book first was the cover…hello color! Aside from that, it sounds like a possible good read. Taking a look at the reviews I did find that this is not YA at all, in fact, it is NA. Meaning, this is intended for audiences 17+ no problem here. It is nice knowing that going in so that I am no shocked by the steamy scenes. I was also reading that many thought this book was a hot mess and needed a lot of work. I think that I still want to give it a shot so bring on the steaminess and keep this book on the list.

More Than Stars: An Asrian Skies Short Story

Um yes! Can someone say space fantasy? I absolutely love Anne Wheeler’s Asrian Skies novels. I had meant to read this, I think she sent me a copy and now I feel like complete shit because amongst the chaos I have not been able to get to it. I will be keeping this on the list because I will be reading it soon and formulating a review.

All We Ever Wanted

Eh…contemporary fiction is not always my thing. I am not sure why this is even on my list. I guess I was feeling it at one point but I am going to have to say, not anymore. This is being taken off of the list. This just isn’t something I would grab on a normal basis.

Fruit of the Drunken Tree

Apparently, at one point I was feeling historical fiction… I am not anymore so this is gone! Another one bites the dust. this is kind of fun, in a strange OCD kind of way.

I think I will keep the first Down the TBR hole post short. For the next installment, I will most likely go through 20 books rather than the 10 I did here. Alright, let’s

take a look at the statistics now.

Starting Number of Books: 617

Ending Number of Books: 613

I was able to take off 2 because they had already been read and 2 more that I did not feel drawn to. Four books this time is not bad at all!

I hope you all enjoyed this and I look forward to the next installment. I will see you all then! Remember to post links to reviews for any of these books you have done. I would love to read them and maybe your review can change my mind on keeping or getting rid of one of these from the list.
