Mini Review: These Precious Scars – Emily Suvada

Mini Review: These Precious Scars – Emily Suvada

How is everyone? Are you looking forward to the weekend? I am going to be building my own wooden photo backdrop for my Instagram photos! I am hoping to get it done before the weekend. It should be super easy to make. I am still new to Bookstsgram and would love any tips and advice you could give me, such as prop ideas etc.

If you know me, then you know I have fallen in love with the Mortal Coil series by Emily Suvada. I was lucky enough to interview her for a Saturday Spotlight as well! Check out the exclusive interview here. There was some major fangirling going on during that just so you all know that. It was truly an honor to converse with her.

If you have read her books, then you know there was a short story that was available to read free, during the month of December via Riveted free reads. I grabbed it and read it within a few minutes. Today, I will give a mini review letting you know what I thought. So, let’s get to it!

These Precious Scars (This Mortal Coil #0.5)

These Precious Scars (This Mortal Coil #0.5)

Author: Emily Suvada

Published: September 25th, 2018

Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Book Length: 47 Pages

Genre: Science Fiction

Rating:  ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Buy the book: I have not been able to find a place to purchase this but I would love to own a physical copy and an ARC. If anyone knows where I can grab these, let me know!

Jun Bei, Cole, Anna, Leoben, Ziana. Five children with extraordinary potential.

They don’t get many visitors at the remote laboratory where they live under the eye of legendary geneticist, Lachlan Agatta. The man and woman who arrive are nothing like the others.

They’re from Cartaxus and offer the children something rare and unfathomable: escape.

But freedom means different things to the five children. For one of them, getting want they want may mean betraying everyone else.

I have to mention that I absolutely love these covers! The entire series is just…perfect! I need a physical copy of this for my collection! That…and an ARC. So far, I have the UK paperbacks of This Mortal Coil and This Cruel Design as well as the US Hardcopies. This will be the first series that I have owned multiple copies of!

I really enjoyed this short story and it is very short. I think it took me maybe 10 minutes at most to read it. I flew through it. I will mention this…be sure to read This Mortal Coil before this or you will be lost and confused without any idea of what is going on. It does not spoil the story but it gives some good background to the main theme in the story. Without knowing the premise of the first book it will be hard to understand what is happening.

Once again, Emily uses amazing imagery to bring us right beside her characters. A new visitor brings with him hope but that quickly fades when they see the danger that lurks beneath the surface. I do feel it added a good glimpse into the past but I really wished this was longer. I feel I really got into and then it was done…I kept swiping my kindle hoping more pages would show up but alas…they did not. That was the primary reason I took a star off, It felt too short and I thought it could have given so much more than it did.

Would you read this novel? Buy it or borrow it? If you have read it, what did you think?
