Jim Hunt is an average 18 year old college student… or he would like
to be. He dreams of a door. An important secret about who or what he
is lies behind that door; a secret he doesn’t want to let out. During a
trip home for Christmas break, he is confronted by his destiny, but
will he follow the path that his old teacher Park would like him to? Or will he walk away to live a normal life?

Described as Stephen King meets X-men or Star Wars meets Jason Bourne,
this eBook will appeal to fans of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne
Rice, Scott Sigler, Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff, Harry Potter or the
Twilight series.

This cover is one that symbolizes a great amount of detail about the story. Yes, It shows a piece of paper and a world as the title states, but it means much more. The paper world refers to a two-dimensional world. One that we all live in, meaning there is more beneath. The eye hints at the fact that there is something more to this world and only a select few can see it. I love how much a cover can say about a book. This one does such a great job.

The beginning of this story puts you right into the thick of the action. You are thrown into the search for a lost girl and the battle to save her life. I was confused when the following chapter threw me into the seemingly ordinary life of an 18-year-old college student. As I continued to read, it made more sense how the two tied together. Do not give up reading if you get confused…give the book a chance!

Jim Hunt is an 18-year-old college freshman who lives a seemingly normal life. His entire life begins to change when he starts having strange dreams. Little does he know this will spiral into him making a decision that comes with the responsibility of holding the safety of the world in his hands. Will he choose to take on this power and responsibility or walk away in an attempt to live a normal life?

In the beginning, I did not like Jim’s roommate Eric. I felt as if he was another spoiled rich kid who would rather party at clubs than focus on his school work. Through the story, I grew to feel sorry for him. By the end of the book, I grew sympathetic toward him and respected him for making the right choice. Each character is well developed with an interesting story. They are made real, having flaws. Jim makes a mistake that ultimately brings him to his final decision. The characters are given back stories and characteristics that make the reader want to learn more about them. The reader develops feelings of compassion toward them and cheers for them, hoping they will succeed.

The author’s choice in naming the “good” and “bad” beings in this book was simply genius. The champions are those who are good, fighting to protect the world. Spoilers are those who desire to destroy the world. The simplicity of the name choices is amazing. It works so well and is so easy for one to remember. At the end of the book, the reader will not forget the tale of the champions and spoilers. The story did not go into detail about how the spoilers were created, but it did explain the champions. The champions are born and often those born with the potential of becoming one are unaware until much later in life. The part I loved most is that one has to choose to become a champion. They cannot be forced into doing so. This is similar to choosing to do the right thing…another perfect example of why the names are so great.

The book is loaded with action. I felt as if there were multiple vital scenes that made me want to continue reading. It is hard to put a book down when so many events are occurring. Who wants to put their book down in the middle of a fight scene? I really enjoyed this book. If I am correct, my research shows that this book is in the pre-production phase of being made into a movie. This would make such a fantastic movie! The action would pull you in and make you sit on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happened next. I cannot wait to read the second book. If you love suspense and fantasy check this book out!
