Clockwork Princess – Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess – Cassandra Clare

Hello everyone! I am so happy to have you all here today. Hopefully, you’ve all had a fantastic weekend. I did! I actually met a local witch who is a big youtuber and celebrated Litha with her on Sunday. She had invited me over during one of her live videos when we learned that we only lived an hour drive apart. She lives super close to where I used to…small world.

We have been swimming every day, consistently. This makes me so happy because it keeps the kids away from the TV, we have fun, and it is great exercise! Today is the first weekday of the summer for my oldest son and he is really happy. I will admit he is a little upset that I will not allow him to play videogames all day long. I am looking for some great activities and crafts to do this summer with both of them. If you do anything with your kids or remember something from your childhood, let me know below. What are some fun summer activities?

Alright, let’s stop there. Be sure to watch for some mother and son reviews coming soon…once I get him to sit down and read with me. For now…let’s take a look at the final book in the Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Princess.

Danger and betrayal, love and loss, secrets and enchantment are woven together in the breathtaking finale to the #1 New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices Trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series.
THE INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING
A net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. Mortmain plans to use his Infernal Devices, an army of pitiless automatons, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan: he needs Tessa Gray.
Charlotte Branwell, head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain before he strikes. But when Mortmain abducts Tessa, the boys who lay equal claim to her heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, Will is as much in love with her as ever.
As those who love Tessa rally to rescue her from Mortmain’s clutches, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?
Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

I hate picking favorites of any book but I have to say that this is my favorite one of the entire series! I can’t explain how much I truly love this entire series but this book in particular. I think the little things that bothered me in the other books were taken care of in this one.

I love how the story seamlessly continues from the previous two books. The one major difference in this one…the pace. Action packed scenes make up more of the book than in either of the other two, which is great. I always fly through this book which is good and bad because it is an emotional one for sure. I don’t know how many times I wanted to cry or scream in frustration…needless to say, keep the tissues close while reading.

Each scene flowed so seamlessly and you couldn’t help but turn page after page without knowing how long you’d been reading. I wish I had more to say but this review is so hard to write. I love the series so much but my review can’t be “I love this series. READ IT!” typed over and over again. That would be pretty boring and give no real feedback about the story.

This book ties a lot of loose ends and honestly, it might be the best final book in a trilogy I’ve read. It is just….perfect.

The faster-paced scenes really pull the reading into the plot right away. We finally see more of the clockwork creations and unfortunately Mortmain…I really despise that man. The world that the author created from us only gets more detailed with each book. Having taken place in the past, it takes skill to make a book feel as if it really belongs there. Clare did a fantastic job making The Infernal Devices series feel as if it took place in ‘steampunk’ times. I get a huge steampunk feel from it, especially from Henry and his gadgets.

This might be the final book in this series but we still see the characters grow and develop more…hello Sophie!

“It was a near incomprehensible tangle, the three of them, but there was one certainty, and that was that there was no lack of love between them.”

Tessa: When I began book 1, I knew I loved her because I could see so much of myself in her. What I was not expecting was falling for her character and how strong she’d become. Tessa really blossomed. In this series she moved from being a captive slave, so to speak, to becoming a strong woman, an inspiration.

Will: Awww, Will! I love him so much. My favorite part is that his humor and wit continues through the entire series. It is a constant that I know I can look forward to. He is so sweet and caring when you get beneath that mask of toughness he wears at times. His relationship with Magnus is great too! I love that he finds Magnus easy to talk with…honestly I just love Magnus’ character in all the shadowhunter books.

Jem: Jem…I don’t really know what to say about him. I’ve loved him from book one and it is easy to see why Tessa loves him and Will both. I know there is chemistry between Jem and Tessa, I love it too, but I really think her and Will are a better match. Jem will always be that perfect book boyfriend though! He is such a gentleman and moments between him and Tessa make me swoon!

Sophie: She really becomes more than a maid in this book, she becomes a part of the shadowhunter family. Her and Gideon are super cute together too, though I wasn’t very keen on him at the beginning of the series.

Magnus: The one character I really get to see more of in the shadowhunter books!! Magnus is such an amazing character and I love seeing him transcend each series. He always remains friendly and easy to talk with. My favorite thing about him remains the fact that he stands up for what he believes but goes to any length he can to help those he cares for.

“Life is a book, and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read. I would read them together with you, as many as I can, before I die –“

I’m so sad this series is over…it is my favorite of all the shadowhunter books. It might be super heavy on the romance but in this case, I am alright with the love triangle. Clare has created two amazing men and Tessa is so strong-willed. The characters are the best part of her books and this series is no different. These are the types of characters I get close to and that is why they become such emotional books. I feel what they feel and it is a great feeling but man…I am exhausted after because I’ve been on this huge emotional roller coaster and thrown around in all different directions. Bring the tissues!
