Dawn of a Ruinous Love by A.M. Eno

I want to wish the Dawn of A Ruinous Love a happy release day! Today, the world gets to grab you and take you home for an adventure, thanks to A.M. Eno.

I have mentioned that one of my goals for this year is to read more books that I own…while this was not one that I already owned or even own a physical copy of, it is from an author that is new to me. I also want to make a point of reading more books from indie authors, especially those that I have not heard of or read work from. Indie authors are so important and I love sharing their work. This is a novella so it was a quick read that sounded interesting.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Welcome to the City of Elementals, where magical prowess determines the elite. Where the next Gods and Goddesses blessed ruler is decided by a magical duel.

Kevah, the lord-to-be was born with legendary power, rivaled only by the most infamous man in Thaumoria’s history. He yearns for an ordinary life away from the destiny being forced upon him, far removed from the burdens of his birthright.

During an opulent ball, a routine evening of drinks and dancing takes an unexpected turn when Kevah encounters a woman unlike any he has met before. Intrigued, he is determined to win her affection and unravel the secrets of her past.

What began as an arrogant pursuit quickly spirals into a journey of discovery, revealing the dark history of Thaumoria through the eyes of the one man who can never outrun it.

Dawn of a Ruinous Love is a mesmerizing fantasy novella of love, power, and dark histories that marries the complex world-building of Avatar: The Last Airbender with the whirlwind romance of Cinderella. Join Kevah as he challenges his destiny and pursues a love that could change the fate of Thaumoria forever.

I knew going into this book that it was short—that much was clear when I saw there were only 66 pages. What I did not account for was that when reading, it felt as if there was not enough time. For me personally, a lot of the book fell flat. It was cute to see the relationship building, but it felt a little rushed. There was no hook to make me relate to the characters or find empathy in their story. I am hoping this comes in the full novel the author is releasing on October 21st, 2024.

I hope to read the other related books the author has available on Kindle as well, in hopes that they will also tie into this novella and, eventually, the novel. I really have hope for this, but sadly, the novella was not enough for me. Personally, it is really hard to build that connection between characters and readers in 66 pages without prior work establishing it.

Would you pick up a short novella similar to this, with no other work prior? Have you? I would love to know if you’ve found a similar novella and loved it.
