Happy mid-week everyone! Welcome back to Witchy Wednesday, the day of the week where I openly talk about anything witchy. I admit I love this day of the week, though it is no longer the only day of the week I discuss anything witch or Pagan related.
It has been a long time and so much has happened since I have been gone! I have been crazy busy at our store Mystic Dragon’s Lair and we now have a website up! Check us out HERE. I am always making new things for our store so I stay pretty busy aside from handling our live sales on Facebook and dealing with customers in the physical store. But enough about that…how about we get to the real reason you are reading this…the book review!!
With so much going on in the world, we are always looking for ways to improve ourselves…especially as the cold months approach. It comes with a lot of introspection and wondering if we are where we want to be in life. Sometimes we realize that we want to improve certain areas of our lives. For me this was very true, I realized that I was not doing the things I loved…I was not reading enough or writing reviews, I also was not spending enough time on my practice. I was spending most of my time on mundane day to day activities. This had to change and the perfect book came into my life.
I was really looking forward to reading this book and not only did I learn some new things but I was taught how to let go of things that hold no meaning to me anymore.

Get Unstuck, Find Inspiration, and Take the Next Step on Your Path.
The Witch’s Path is all about raising your Witchcraft practice to the next level–whether you’re a beginner who feels overwhelmed, a disillusioned adept, a jaded coven leader, or anyone in between. This book shares specific, hands-on tips for what you can do to move forward spiritually today, no matter what your starting point.
Join Thorn Mooney on an exploration of the most common themes practitioners need to look into when they’re feeling stagnant or stuck: sacred space, devotion, ritual and magic, personal practice, and community. Every chapter features four separate exercises, designed for four different types of readers, so you can come back to this book as you grow and discover fresh techniques and activities. The Witch’s Path helps renew your sense of engagement with the Craft so you can continue evolving your spirit, your practice, and yourself.
When you begin this book it might not seem like much. Mooney discusses a little of her life and how she views magick etc. The part of the book that really got me first was the section about sacred spaces. Many pagans have an altar and quickly begin acquiring things to place on it as well as tools to use. Before you know it, you end up like myself…cupboards or shelves full of jars, crystals, things I have collected from nature, and various other belongings. Looking at the space, you might not feel the same about it as you once did…I know I didn’t. Mooney suggests taking each item off and sitting with it for a little time to really feel the energy, think of when you acquired it and how. What emotions are attached? Good or bad? Does this item even serve your highest good any longer? Then place the items in a place to store or give to another who might benefit from it more than yourself. Once you find your space clear…feel the energy again and just take some time to remember why this was made into your altar.
This blew my mind! It is something so simple yet I never thought of doing so. Too often we get caught up in daily tasks and things like offerings or clutter might find its way around our space. This is a wonderful way to regularly clear the energy of your space. I always thing of smoke cleansing etc, but fail to think of physically clearing things that might not serve me any longer or things with negative emotions attached to them.
She discussing things such as shielding and how to do this so that you can protect both yourself and your energy. I feel like too many people are not aware of how to do this simple task that should be one of the first things every energy worker learns. Being able to protect yourself is one of those things that too many overlook when starting this path, or something that experienced practitioners may lapse on doing regularly.
The best part about the sacred space section is that Mooney talks you through clearing and blessing a space based on the different elements!
Mooney brings so much more than cleansing basics to this book, she talks about Gods and devotion…why people worship. She even discusses about how to live devoted lives through each element. The fact that examples are given based on the different elements might be my all time favorite aspect of this book.
Mooney ends the book by discussing some challenges and I really enjoyed that. So many people talk about how incredible it is being a witch by very few open up about some challenges we may face. This was a chapter that I felt was so needed.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was wishing for more in depth learning different things but this is exactly what it says, “advancing your craft at every level.” It doesn’t teach new concepts entirely, but teaches one how to dive deeper into some of the things they already do. I think for beginners it is wonderful to learn these ways of thinking right from the start and for those more experienced, it is nice to get a fresh view on what practices you might have set in stone now.
Thank you again to Llewellyn for sending me this book. I am so grateful to have had the chance to read it.
What practices do you have that are tried and true? Do you have routines for your practice?
