The Legend of Alastar – David N. Corrado

The Legend of Alastar – David N. Corrado

Hello everyone! I hope your Monday wasn’t too bad, mine was good. Typical mom things. I am actually starting to potty train my youngest so that is going to be ‘fun.’ I’ve done it once before so I can do it again! For some reason I always think that boys are harder to potty train, that’s what I’ve always been told. Well, I think I’ve done enough parent talking for now. How about we move onto why we are all really here today!

Today I am reviewing a graphic novel, The Legend of Alastar. But first, I would like to take the time to thank Mascot Books for sending me a copy to review. If you’d like to follow the author, you can find him here. Now, on to the review!

A young girl, adopted into royalty, yearns to know more about her father. A warrior, hidden from humanity, longs to know more about his forgotten past. Their lives collide at the hands of two mysterious threats that hold all the answers they have been searching for.

I have not read graphic novels in many years but when I read the summary for this one, my interest was piqued. I know, I know…there is not a lot there but that little bit was enough to make me curious. From the cover, we know there is obviously some type of masked hero on a horse, a type of knight and little demon creatures.

David was able to create a story full of adventure. I finished this in one sitting, unable to put it down. I felt invested in the characters and enjoyed watching the story unfold. The build to the climax of the story was very well done and presented in a perfect way. The imagery was drawn out nicely and the illustrations bring a uniqueness to the book, unlike typical ones I’ve seen. The bright colors draw your attention initially but the smaller details had me viewing each page carefully, ensuring I missed nothing. However, the story fell a bit flat for me in a few places. It might just be me as a reader but I wanted more from the images. I wanted to be more surprised or caught off guard by the turn of events but at times it felt predictable. That being said, I might read future installments of his work in the future.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it to someone looking to dive into graphic novels packed full of adventure. This is one graphic novel you will devour in a sitting without being able to put it down. The action will pull you in but the characters will make you stay. I feel that many younger readers would love this tale as well, I will actually be showing this to my seven-year-old to gauge his opinion as well.

Would you read this novel? Buy it or borrow it? If you have read it, what did you think?
