Now onto day one…and my first quote.
This is the quote I have lived by since my senior year in high school. I will spare you the tragic details and make this short. I grew up with my sister and dad…my parents separated when I was two. My two brothers lived with my mom. Well…one night that I thought would be typical changed my life. My dad passed away in my living room and I was the one on the phone with the 911 operator as my younger sister screamed in the background. No, we were not alone, luckily my dad’s friend had stayed the night and was helping.
This was the most traumatic moment of my life. For the sake of my privacy, I will not go into detail of that night’s events. Just know it was horrifying for me at 17…to have my dad pass away. My mother then moved up where we lived and took things over for that year. My high school self thrived on this quote. Between bullying and my father passing, I had no choice but to be strong. I had to be strong for my 15-year-old sister…I had to be strong for me. Yes, I was bullied and my father passed (though we had a love/hate relationship)…but my life was not over. I was still alive and breathing, with no choice but to stay strong and move forward.
In today’s world where every day we are surrounded by violence and loss…we all have no choice but to stand strong and push on.
